The workers are now occupying Britain's only wind turbine factory in a last-ditch attempt to save it from closure - lots of actions you can take here: http://savevestas.wordpress.com/

Hum

Bit of a spin on words there.

"UK's only wind turbine factory on the IOW"

But not the only one in the UK or Britain.

They have a recent order for 75Mw of turbines to send to China now thats got to be wrong lol.

I feel saddened & sorry for the people & families but personally dont think that ANY private company should get any Gov money. It might tide them over for a bit but they will still fold & the money be gone. Just like the UK's car industry.

Unfortunately down here on the Isle of Wight Vestas are one of the largest employers both directly & indirectly, it is not just the fact that it is a private company it is the effect that it will have on the whole of the community which has been recognised for some years as an unemployment black spot on the south coast...

Unfortunately dare I say it I don't think the government will step in as as far as I know we have never had a Labour M.P. & probably don't stand a cat in hells chance of having one either...

Was warned about this yesterday by the Seize the Day mailing list...

Having just bought China made solar thermal tubes
( which are the norm, sadly, I hasten to add....)

pics up on my blog......

I would love to be able to buy a UK made turbine when we get round to phase 3 of the home generation plan ( phase 1= solar thermal, phase 2 = PV ...next year! over whole garage roof! phase 3 is turbine for ancillaries such as borehole pump, as we are not very windy here although its a constant wind.... )

So I am saddened by this news and have given what support I can....

sorry can't do more....

So the company is staying afloat they are just out sourcing the workforce? So then the Gov cant step in really as then they would need to change the trade agreements we have with the rest of the world.

Its time we had a more level playing field & stopped letting imports in that are not made to the same standards of build, welfare, health & safety & employment standards.

I wondered how a company with good orders on its books would be in such trouble.
