For those that don't know St Cassian is the patron saint of school teachers, he was a very severe Christian schoolmaster who was not liked by his pagan pupils, so they stabbed him to death with iron pen-knibs...
No I didn't know either but I picked up a fabulous book called "The Perpetual Almanack of Folklore" for £1.25 from a charity shop today so theres many more where that came from...
