Transport
We are very aware that out transport needs should be met by walking, cycling or taking public transport, however, when your nearest supermarket is 8 miles away or you have to collect 4 sacks of animal food? Let’s face it, its harder to be green if you live in the country! It sounds absurd, but there is no longer a public transport infrastructure that allows you to move freely in the countryside. So we have addressed our transport issues in the following ways:
Trains when possible. When we decided to move to Cornwall we were very aware that we wanted to be near a decent rail service and fortunately for us we found Newhouse Farm which was just under a mile from a mainline station to London – in fact I can get on a train in the village and travel without changes to Scotland. That said, its not cheap unless you book well in advance.
Cars are essential to us so we decided to go diesel and use biodiesel. There are some limitations and the warranty on modern ‘common rail’ diesels does not cover using biofuels. It pays to understand the pros and cons before committing to using biodiesel in your car.
